Flying Spur / Sibon by Bletchingly
Bay / 2001 /16.2hh
2008 Service Fee : $7, 700 (incl. GST)
SECOND SEASON SIRE VOLITANT, one of the most talented sons of Flying Spur ever to be retired to stud in Australia.
A multiple stakes winner of over $300,000 in career earnings, Volitant represents outstanding value for breeders this season.
He raced at two and trained on to win at group level on two occasions as well as several other stakes placings. Volitants biggest win came on Caulfield Cup Day in the shape of a dominant performance in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes over 1400m, beating the likes of former Champion Sprinter YELL and popular stallion FOREPLAY.
"He had amazing cruising speed, and with a natural turn of foot was able to hit the winning post with an unwavering willingness to win" Champion jockey Darren Gauci.
"There is only one other horse in the history of racing at Caulfield over 1400m that has gone faster, that was Exceed and excel by 0.1 of a second" Trainer Michael Hibbs.
Volitant is by Australia’s hottest sire and 2006/07 Champion Sire elect, FLYING SPUR. With the service fee for Flying Spur increasing dramatically to $137,500 this year, Australian breeders now have a "value for money" alternative in the shape of Volitant. He is an imposing individual, a strong robust type with outstanding conformation and a tremendous temperament. But that is not all. Volitant’s pedigree merges together two of the most influential sire lines in the history of racing in Australia – DANEHILL and BLETCHINGLY the sire of Volitants dam, Sibon.
